A Lafayette woman on Thursday celebrated a very special birthday.

Genevieve Martin Meaux turned 103 years old Thursday, and her family threw her a parade for the occasion.

Martin was born on May 28, 1917, and grew up on a family farm between Scott and Lafayette. Her parents, Ulysse and Emilie Martin, were farmers with strong beliefs in faith and family first.

She was one of 21 siblings, and was the first of her brothers and sisters to graduate from Scott High School. She became a "domestic engineer," and can still organize, plan, and have creative ideas, her family says.

Martin likes to tell stories about "growing up back in the olden days," and is in her element telling her stories to family and friends. She enjoys playing cards, keeping an immaculate house, and visiting family and friends.

"If anyone needs to know or remember anything, we just have to ask 103-year-young Genevieve Martin Meaux," says family member Mandy Pontiff.

A line of cars with family and friends ran down Foreman Drive to wish her a happy birthday.

Happy birthday, Mrs. Genevieve!!
