The 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette, Inc. hosted a candidate forum today for those running for Lafayette Mayor-President.

The forum was co-sponsored by The Senior Pastoral Alliance of Southwest LA, Lafayette NAACP Branch #6060, The Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, and Women of Wisdom.

The groups say they are all nonpartisan and are dedicated to promoting active, informed participation of citizens in their government.

All candidates in the race agreed to participate. Those running for the office are:

Carlee Alm-Labar
Simone Champagne
Joshua Guillory
Carlos Harvin
Nancy Marcotte

Organizers say the forum's purpose is to provide constituents with the opportunity to hear from the candidates themselves. Also, it was meant to encourage and inspire citizens to vote.

Coordinator Whalen Gibbs, Jr. said that being informed about what you're voting for is important.

"If you stay home, and you don't vote, and you're not informed...we're seeing so many close elections lately, and one vote does count. An informed vote is a good vote."

Election Day is October 12.
