A new hemp company is working to bring a popular cash crop to Acadiana.

Virgin Hemp Farms recently expanded its work from Utah to Louisiana in hopes of educating local farmers and those suffering from chronic pain how they can take advantage of hemp.

"We wanted to make sure local farmers here didn't suffer the same consequences that the farmers in Utah and Oregon suffered," said owner Blaine Jennings.

Virgin Hemp Farms is working around the clock to make plants turn into oil.

There's a lot of steps that go into growing hemp, which means there's a big opportunity to open up jobs all over Acadiana.

"From the planting of the plant, to the extraction of the plant. To the manufacturing of the plant that you purchase off shelves," said Jennings.

Jennings adds that he hopes what they're doing in this one greenhouse in Acadiana will truly help all farmers in Louisiana.
