The Duson Police Department has arrested one man after a late night traffic stop revealed stolen guns in his vehicle.

According to a Facebook post by the department, Donivan Alexander of Lafayette was arrested after officers stopped his vehicle late Tuesday night for a burnt headlight.

After stopping the vehicle, officers learned that there were two guns in the vehicle - a .223 caliber Bush Master Rifle and a Taurus .380 caliber handgun.

The driver claimed both of the guns were his, but officers determined that both guns had been stolen. One was taken from Lafayette, the other from St. Martinville.

Officers also recovered over 50 bullets for the .223 caliber rifle.

Alexander was charged with two counts of Possession of Stolen Firearms.

The guns will be released to their owners and the investigation is ongoing.
