This Lunch featured a topic of great importance - The Downtown Safety Summit.

The Lunch was presented by the Acadiana Advocate and was held in the Hall of St. John's Cathedral, with lunch provided by Johnson's Boucaniere.

The Summit focused on issues of crime, policing, and safety in the Downtown district. DLU members, property owners, business owners, residents, and other stakeholders from Downtown and neighboring areas.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet the Sergeants of the new Downtown Police detail and to learn about the policies and strategies that the Lafayette Police Department is implementing to make Downtown a safer place.

Anita Begnaud, CEO of Lafayette Downtown Development Authority, acknowledged that "there are challenges when it comes to safety in downtown areas."

Begnaud explained the purpose of the Summit.

"We want to let people know about the things that are being done to attempt to make downtown safer for people, whether they come here to worship on Sundays, or they own a business downtown, or they just bring their kids here on the weekends for Downtown Alive."
