Students and staff at Carencro Catholic showed their support for local law enforcement today at the school by washing police units.

Their "We Back the Blue!" event started at 10 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m.

Organizers say those at the school know the sacrifice local law enforcement has made for their tight-knit community and want to show their appreciation.

Devin Soeseno, principal of Carencro Catholic, explained that the school has been honoring first responders all week, including a special mass on Wednesday honoring those who responded to the terror attacks on 9/11.

The school has featured police and first responders all week long, showcasing different aspects of their jobs, including showing the students their police units and K9s.

Soeseno said that for today's event, the school invited Carenro Police, Lafayette Police, and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office to get their police units washed by students.

She hopes that the week had an impact on students.

"We hope that the students today earn gratitude...and giving back to their community. You know, these first responders risk their lives for us every single day, and we want our kids to show appreciation for what they do."

Carencro Catholic is located at 200 W. St. Peter St. In Carencro.
