The Iberia Parish Fire District responded this morning to a house fire located in the 5000 block of Weeks Island Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed.

Officials say this is the third structure fire in the last week that Iberia Parish Fire District has responded to. This fire brings the total structure fires to 34 for 2019.

KATC spoke with the Iberia Parish Fire District Chief Guy Bonin, who said that he believes none of the fires are suspected to be arson. Bonin believes they are related to electrical issues, and are not related to heaters or the cold weather.

Bonin said that the fire district averages around 38 fires a year, so this number of fires is normal.

Assisting in the response was B.O.M., Grand Marais, and Rynella Volunteer Fire Department.
