Iberia Parish saw a spike in coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with 22 new cases reported for a total of 217.

We asked LDH Regional Director Dr. Tina Stefanski if that large spike in the parish is from a nursing home, but she would not confirm if that's the case.

Multiple sources tell KATC there is a cluster at a nursing home in Iberia Parish. Our source says nearly 40 residents are COVID-19 positive, nearly a half dozen are hospitalized, and roughly 12 employees tested positive.

Nursing home management declined to take our calls and have not responded to our emails.

The nursing home's corporate office also hasn't responded to our requests for comment.

While Dr. Stefanski wouldn't confirm this specific cluster, she said the Department of Health is aware of nursing home clusters in Acadiana.

"Please stay home, reduce your risk of exposure and risk of spreading this contagious virus to other individuals. In a nursing home, we expect to see more clusters and more deaths," Stefanski said.

When asked if, without saying the name of the nursing home in Iberia Parish, Dr. Stefanski could confirm there is a cluster at a nursing home in Iberia Parish, she added, "There are clusters at a few nursing homes throughout this region."

Tuesday night, Dr. Stefanski told the Opelousas City Council that the majority of deaths in St. Landry Parish are tied to nursing homes.
