The 2020 Delcambre Shrimp Festival has been canceled.

The Board of Directors for the festival shared the update on their Facebook page Thursday night.

"The hardships COVID-19 has imposed on everyone in our communities cannot be overlooked. Hard times have fallen on many and a successful festival is not impossible with still so many uncertainties affecting crucial decisions. We work hard in giving you the best food, top-notch entertainment, an the most inviting atmosphere to 'pass a good time' that in these unprecedented times it would be very difficult to fulfill our obligations to the height of our standards," reads the statement.

The board says that while they realize local residents and visiting friends may be disappointed, "it is out of our concern for each and every one of you that we have come to this difficult decision."

They add that they plan on making the 70th Shrimp Festival bigger and better than ever.

"For now, it is just a pause in time, so hang out because the best is yet to come."
