Two Lake Charles Police officers were injured yesterday when they tried to stop a man who was cutting himself.
The officers were called to an assisted living residence on 21st Street at about 5:22 p.m., a release states. They found Courtney Nichal Able Joseph, armed with a knife and cutting himself.
The officers tried to talk to him but he wouldn't respond. He then allegedly charged the officers with the knife. Officers tried using a Taser to stop him, but it had no effect on him.
The officers were able to take the knife away, but not before Joseph allegedly cut one officer on his hands and stabbed the other in the leg.
Both officers were treated and released from a local hospital. Joseph is still hospitalized while he is treated for the cuts he made to himself and to evaluate his mental health, the release states.
