122 rising seniors received their coveted class rings at Rayne High School Thursday evening.

RHS principal Wendell Prudhomme said it was their goal to keep a sense of normalcy for the occasion amid all the not-normal circumstances surrounding the coronavirus.

Prudhomme said the idea for the ceremony came from Jostens representative Sue Girard. The ceremony, instead of involving a large group of people, including students, guests, and faculty, was modified to a drive-thru. Students and their parents guests lined up in vehicles outside the school and each student was able to get out, walk through a ceremonial arch, enter the gym, and receive their ring.

Prudhomme said the ceremony is one way he and his staff will continue to bring that sense of normalcy to students.

He and other staff members have been at the school for at least a few hours each day, making sure facilities continue to run. Previously, the school also held a drive-thru book pickup and packet pickup. Prudhomme said those types of events will continue until everything is back to normal.

Congratulations to the Rayne High Class of 2021!
