Public visitation ongoing in Lafayette for Gov. Kathleen Blanco

LAFAYETTE, La. - A public visitation and prayer service for Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco is taking place on Friday in Lafayette from 12:30-8 p.m. in Cathedral Hall at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral.

Blanco passed on Sunday following a courageous battle with cancer.

On Saturday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Lafayette before a private burial.

Public visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. at Cathedral Hall.

There's been a change in the time that the procession from Cathedral Hall to the Cathedral that will take place on Saturday. That procession will now begin at 10 a.m. and will travel from Cathedral Hall onto St. John Street, and will end in front of the Cathedral. At 10:20 a.m., Gov. Blanco's friends and family members will deliver eulogies from the podium inside the Cathedral, and the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans and Bishop Michael Duca of Baton Rouge will join Bishop Deshotel and Bishop Emeritus Jarrell as Prelates of Honor for the Mass of Christian Burial. Father Chester Arceneaux, Gov. Blanco's pastor, will serve as the main celebrant. In addition, Governor and Mrs. Edwards will attend Gov. Blanco's funeral.
