On Saturday, a bag containing a gun and ammo was found near a church on University Avenue.
Yesterday, some neighbors stood watch over the church while services were held, to ensure nothing untoward happened.
Lafayette Police tell us they are following several leads to determine how the bag got there and why.
Police tell us there was a shotgun, some shells, several ID cards and clothes in the bag. The bag was found Saturday and was soaking wet, police say.
Today, detectives are tracking down the people named on the ID cards, and have sent the bag and contents to a lab for testing.
