The owners of Prejean's hope to open the restaurant's doors to Acadiana next month, but are offering a new option for those who just can't wait.

Thursday, Prejean's opened a drive-thru window serving a limited menu, including boiled crawfish and shrimp, fried catfish, seafood poboys, burgers, crawfish enchiladas, and more.

Dean-O's owner Tim Metcalf, who purchased Prejean's last year with son Greg and friend Ken Boudreaux, says the Cajun restaurant will feature much of what made it popular years ago. The menu will feature fresh local ingredients "cooked as Cajuns do" in gumbos, étouffées, and specialty dishes, but will also incorporate new dishes from the mind of Chef Seth Ratcliff. And some Dean-O's staples (though not pizza, Metcalf says) will make the trip to Prejean's as well.

Live music will stick around, but likely a little less often, and Metcalf says there are also plans for brunches.

Metcalf said he learned through talking with the previous owner and the community just how important a restaurant like Prejean's is, and he couldn't let it become a "casualty of the times."

A full menu is coming soon, but for now, Metcalf and Prejean's staff encourage Acadiana locals and visitors alike to visit the new drive-thru window for dinner.

Prejean's hopes to open its doors on February 8. For the latest new information, follow Prejean's on Facebook.
