Posted at 6:17 PM, Jul 28, 2020

The Lafayette Parish School System has released more information about the start of school, including bell times for parish schools.

"Last week, all LPSS administrators attended the annual administrative conference held at Southside High School and Billeaud Elementary School in order to kick off the new academic year. Administrators received training from the district and are reporting to their respective campuses this week. This year the focus of the training included how to reopen school safely, safety protocols and processes for staff and students such as temperature checks and social distancing, new cleaning and sanitation requirements, and revisions to bell schedules to adjust for transportation capacity restrictions," the update reads.

"This week, administrators will be finalizing details for the reopening of their individual schools so that they can welcome teachers back to campuses next Wednesday, August 5, to begin their training and receive further details on the upcoming school year. High school counselors, pupil appraisal team leaders, master teachers, IEP facilitators, and child nutrition area supervisors have begun reporting to campus according to their specific start dates and are already working on new procedures related to their specific role."

Principal of David Thibodaux STEM Academy Jeff Debetaz also posted the following update for his students regarding transportation:

To prevent the crowding of students on any school campus, individual buses have been allocated for David Thibodaux students and students will not be shuttled to other high school campuses. As in the past, students riding the bus to school will be picked up from a designated satellite area each morning. What is different is this year, is that students will be brought to this same satellite area at the end of the school day.

The transportation department has informed administrators that parents will be able to see their children’s designated school bus and satellite station by looking on the parent portal beginning August 3rd. Parent who choose to provide their own transportation to students will receive this process during the student orientation videos which will placed on the David Thibodaux STEM Academy's website beginning August 3rd.
