The Lafayette Parish School Board will consider a recommendation to disburse checks of $954 in December to parish teachers.
The 13th check comes almost every year; it's the excess of sales tax collections for the year on a tax passed for teacher salaries. A committee of employees and community members looks at the collections every year and makes a recommendation to the board.
This year, the committee presented three scenarios:
1 - No annual pay increase, but a 13th check of $1,854
2 - A $750 per year pay increase plus a 13th check of $548
3 - A $500 per year pay increase plus a 13th check of $954
The committee is recommending the board adopt Scenario #3.
Also on the agenda are discussions related to several different job descriptions, several bid awards, the monthly sales tax report and the monthly budget review/revision.
The board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. To view the agenda, click here.
