Unable to hold their annual Trunk-or-Treat event this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lafayette Police Department decided to celebrate Halloween a little differently.
The department held a drive-thru trick-or-treat Thursday evening, where officers handed out pre-packaged bags of candy to the first 250 kids who "drove-thru" at the station on E. University Avenue.
Social distancing was in place, and the event was a safe way for Lafayette families to celebrate the holiday a few days early.
Organizers say they wanted to keep the spirit of Halloween alive.
"I felt like we owed it to the kids in the community because a lot of kids, their parents aren't going to take them [trick-or-treating] because COVID," explained Sr. Cpl. Robin Green. "So now they get to come and we can social distance and they can come get their bags of candy."
