Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) needs input from residents across Lafayette Parish to help update its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan must be updated every five years to maintain eligibility to receive federal funding for drainage projects, storm shelters, and other projects, according to an LCG spokesperson. Mitigation includes long-term solutions to reduce or eliminate the impact on people and property from future natural disasters.

Residents are asked to participate in updating the plan by answering survey questions about public perceptions, opinions, and concerns about natural hazards in Lafayette Parish.

“Input from residents will help us identify concerns in their neighborhoods which helps the parish to be better prepared and quicker to recover from natural hazards like flooding, hurricanes and tornadoes,” LCG Floodplain Administrator Stephanie Weeks said.

Feedback will provide a framework for LCG, Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, and Youngsville to identify natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities in the parish.
