Some local schools are getting a visit from the "Jump With Jill" performers this week, courtesy of the Junior League of Lafayette.
The show, described as a "rock and roll nutrition show," is aimed at illustrating the power of health, fitness and nutrition through award-winning music about healthy eating and exercise.
"Even a child can tell you to eat your vegetables and drink more water. Jump with Jill helps close the gap between what people know and what people do by making an overwhelmingly compelling experience that will help kids prioritize the healthy choice over the unhealthy one," said Jump with Jill creator Jill Jayne, MS, RD. "We think it's so important, we sing and dance about it."
"We get kids up on their feet singing and dancing with us, so they really get excited about making those healthy choices for years to come," she said.
Created by a Registered Dietitian and musician, Jump with Jill has been performed 3,500 times in six countries for over a million kids. The nationally touring show transforms nutrition education into a full-scale rock concert covering subjects such as enjoying fruits and vegetables, exercising to make the Beat of the Body, getting goin' with breakfast, drinking water, and representing with calcium for strong bones, just to name a few.
"We are thrilled to offer this community program to elementary students in Acadiana," said JL president Angelle Adams. "Promoting healthy eating habits while having fun in a rock and roll setting is such an exciting experience for our young children, and Junior League of Lafayette is proud to bring this opportunity to our community."
Today the group performed at Charles Burke Elementary. They'll be at L. Leo Judice Elementary and Green T. Lindon Elementary later this week.
