UPDATE: Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Lafayette identified

Update: According to the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, the man killed in Sunday night's shooting near La Bamba has been identified as 28-year-old Deiondre Solomon.

LAFAYETTE, La. — Lafayette Police tell us that the initial incident happened around 9:45 p.m. at the nightclub in the 4400 block of Johnston Street. A man was shot, and transported to the hospital. He's expected to recover.

A Lafayette Police Officer engaged the suspect in that shooting, who was armed with a handgun. That's all LPD can tell us, since state troopers are investigating what happened next.

Louisiana State Police told us that they're investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 4400 block of Johnston Street.

On April 9, 2023, around 11 pm, Louisiana State Police responded to the Lafayette Police Department's request to investigate the incident. The Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident.

According to State Police, at 10:45 pm on April 9, 2023, Lafayette Police responded to shots fired at a night club in the 4400 block of Johnston Street. A Lafayette Police Officer working a security detail at that night club discharged his weapon.

One subject was shot by the officer. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The officer was not injured, authorities say.

Lafayette Police are investigating the initial shooting incident. Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency for the officer-involved shooting.
