Funeral arrangements announced for Ella Mae Meaux

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Ms. Ella Mae Meaux who died Tuesday at age 90.

Meaux known as the 'Borden’s Lady,' worked at Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe in Lafayette for more than 56 years.

"There wasn’t a soul who visited the Shoppe who hadn’t heard about the legendary 'Borden’s Lady.' She was a light in the community. A warm heart serving a cold delight," Borden's posted on social media.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Ella Mae Broussard Meaux, age 90, the former Ella Mae Broussard, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mausoleum in Mire, Louisiana.

Reverend Michael J. Arnaud will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services.

In order to help keep the community safe all families and their guests are required to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing. Thank you for understanding during this unprecedented time.

For family members and friends who are unable to attend on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 11:00 AM, the service will be live-streamed to a Memorial Facebook Group dedicated to Ella Mae Broussard Meaux. Survivors include her children, Sandy Meaux, Dolores Dallas and her husband, Bob, all of Lafayette, Janice Ryan and her husband, Earl of Breaux Bridge, Robert Meaux of Breaux Bridge and Yvonne Fowler of Tomball, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Bobbie Meaux; her grandchildren, Casey Meaux, Abby Meaux Conques (Husband Jared), Katie Dallas Mayer (Husband Matt), Maria Dallas Tatford (Husband Byrnes), Nicolas Ryan (Wife Whitley), Robyn Savoy, Jolie Fowler and Kaj Fowler; her great grandchildren, Ryan Meaux, Riley Paige Meaux and Raigen Meaux, and Colyn D’Argereau, Jaquelyn D’Argereau, Kathryn D’Argereau, Linkyn D’Argereau, Bria Ryan, Piper Ryan, Andi Ryan, Leah Tatford, Dallas Tatford and Lucy Conques; sisters, Nordine Arceneaux, Glenadale Robin, Patsy Perrodin and Lynie Lou Meche; brother, Albert Broussard and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Sanders Paul Meaux, Sr., who passed away on March 25, 2009; her parents, Drozen and Amaya Cormier Broussard and one son, Jeffery Meaux; one son-in-law, Dan Fowler; sisters, Katherine Broussard, Annie Lois Burleigh, Amy Richard and Deanna Bourque and two brothers, Wonnie Broussard and Elmo Broussard.

Mrs. Meaux was a native of Acadia Parish and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. She was employed for over 56 years with Borden's Ice Cream Parlor, a job that she truly loved. Everyone in Lafayette knew Ella Mae Meaux, as she worked and served the public for many years and even had a news story written about her longevity with Borden’s. She was an intelligent and remarkable "Lady", who loved her family dearly. Mrs. Meaux and her husband raised a big family and gave so much of themselves unselfishly, earning total respect from her devoted children and grandchildren. Meeting people was one of her most cherished passions right alongside gardening and raising her family. She enjoyed the simple things in life by listening to birds chirp and watching her plants grow from the love she gave to them.

A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
