LAFAYETTE, La. — Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe announced the passing of one of its longest serving employees, Ms. Ella Mae Meaux, who died Tuesday at age 90.
Borden's made the announcement in a social media post, which stated that Meaux scooped and served the community for for more than 56 years.
"There wasn’t a soul who visited the Shoppe who hadn’t heard about the legendary 'Borden’s Lady,' stated the post. "She was a light in the community. A warm heart serving a cold delight."
According to the Martin & Castille Funderal Home, arrangements are pending for Meaux, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
"We're a trademark here in Lafayette, Borden's Ice Cream. We're the last one in the world and she was here for 56 years," said Borden's employee Dani Boudreaux. "Anybody that came here to Bordens, we have a lot of regulars that come in and tell us her stories. I never got to meet her but it's really sad that she passed away."
