An all clear was given at Lafayette High on Wednesday morning after the fire department determined that a gas leak had orginated with a loose connection on the roof.

They say that the gas line's connection was likely loosened by winds from Hurricane Delta.

A service repair company was on scene fixing the problem.

Students have returned to the building.

The fire department says they responded to the report of a natural gas smell at the school shortly before 6:30 am. Firefighters determined that a minor leak on the roof was the source of that smell.

The Lafayette Parish School System says the gas leak is not connected to the previous gas leak reported on October 1.

All students were moved to the stadium while the investigation was underway.

"Safety of our students is our number one priority," said LPSS Public Information Officer Allison Dickerson. "We have these protocols in place to protect our students."
