The family of Kao Wokoma has set up a gofundme account for funeral expenses.
Kao's sister, Darcas Wokoma, says the she and her family have been left with the task of paying for funeral expenses and hopes the community will help with that financial burden.
Kao's body was found on Friday while LCG crews were cleaning a coulee along Hillside Drive in Lafayette. Darcus relayed to media at a press conference on Monday that her brother was shot in the head.
Lafayette Police are currently investigating Wokoma's death as a homicide.
On Tuesday,the family and friends of Kao gathered in Girard Park. Darcas, who has been the spokesperson for the family, led those gathered in prayer and remembrance of her brother. The group wore shirts with Wokoma's image on them which read "Fly High Kao".
A vigil planned for Friday October 9, 2020 in Girard Park has been canceled due to Hurricane Delta. Wokoma's sister tells KATC that another vigil date will be forthcoming.
