The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement (CALEA) will conduct an on-site reassessment of the Lafayette Police Department's accreditation this week, and they want to hear from you.
The committee will be in town through Thursday. The accreditation program requires law enforcement agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas: Policy and Procedures, Administration, Law Enforcement Operations and Support Services.
As part of the on-site assessment agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (337) 291-7372, on Wednesday November 6, 2019 between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm. The assessment team will be taking comments on an unrecorded line.
Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments at a public forum on Wednesday November 6, 2019 at 6:30 pm. The forum will be conducted at the Lafayette Police Department located at 900 East University Avenue on the third floor Comstat room.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA standards.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Lafayette Police Department's ability to comply with the standards of accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155-660.
