This November, Lafayette Parish voters will decide whether to shift taxes from culture, arts, and tourism, or CREATE, to funding parish-wide fire services, roads, and bridges.

Parish council members approved a resolution at tonight's meeting to place the shift on this November's ballot.

If voters approve, nearly $500,000 in annual property taxes will be rededicated.

Mayor-President Josh Guillory says the intent behind CREATE is good, but says the parish has to strengthen fire protection and roads.

Tonight's meetings were the first for the parish and city council in a month.

KATC's Chris Welty was at the meetings and will have more on how they are moving forward during the COVID-19 pandemic tonight at 10.
