"I don't think that anybody is immune to this. If you're young, you should be aware of the fact that you can get this."

Tonight, a Lafayette man is sharing his experience with COVID-19.

According to the Governor's office, the state is seeing the biggest increase in cases right now in people between 18 and 29 years old.

Former UL Lafayette student 25-year-old Robert Francis, who contracted the virus, has a message for those who think they can't be infected.

"At that time, I was experiencing nausea and I almost felt like I was going to pass out. I had this slight headache that went away for a little while on that day, but progressively throughout my shift it got worse worse and the headache just started to get really noticeable to me," said Francis.

Not feeling himself, Francis went to the emergency room in late March and tested positive for COVID-19. He was released from the hospital and quarantined for three weeks.

"Relatives that are inside of your house that you're used to having that daily connection with and once you catch this virus, you're quarantined. You can't do things that you could do on a regular basis," said Francis.

Francis knows he was lucky and hopes others his age will take necessary precautions to avoid getting infected.

"If you're young, you should be aware of the fact that you can get this. You're going out to nightclubs, if you're going out to the store you can contract this virus," said Francis.
