Nearly three weeks after he was killed by Lafayette Police, Trayford Pellerin will be laid to rest .

Tonight we're learning more about Thursday's services at Philadelphia Christian Church in Lafayette.

The Pellerin family will have a private visitation at 8:00 a.m., then the public will have a chance to pay their respects starting at 9:30 until the funeral at 11:00.

Amid the pandemic, the church is limiting its capacity tomorrow to allow for social distancing, but even so, they are prepared for hundreds to pay their respects. Church leaders say security will be tight to keep the focus on the Pellerin family.

"We do not want anything to happen that could potentially put a stain on his home going to make the family feel uncomfortable in any way,” said Pellerin family attorney Ronald Haley.

Haley says the focus on Thursday will be on Trayford Pellerin, but also the change so many hope his death will inspire.

"We are dealing with an awakening I believe right now. We want better policing, we want non-biased policing, we want transparency, and we want accountability. We are no longer standing for the status quo."

Among those expected to speak at the funeral is civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton. Lafayette Mayor President Josh Guillory, who accepted an invitation from the Pellerin family, is also expected to make a statement. Haley says it's the first step in bridging the gap between community and government.

"Regardless of what aisle of the political spectrum that one is on, if we are really going to get to a better discourse in the state, in this community, in this country, it is important to acknowledge those regardless of their political affiliation."

For those who will not be attending in person, the funeral will be live-streamed on the Philadelphia Christian Church's website and Facebook page starting at 10:30.
