Loreauville High School lit up the stadium lights Friday night in honor of a man who was found dead in the Iberia Parish Jail earlier this week.
Raymond Bonnet's mother, Wyoletta Welch, told KATC on Thursday that her son was "one of the best football players that came out of Loreauville."
She said that the school honoring her son means the world to her.
"Whenever I got the phone call today that said that they were gonna do this, I was just ecstatic," said Welch. "I'm lost for words because this means a lot to me and my family that the community came out to do this. The mayor, the principal. It really means a lot to me."
Bonnet was found dead at the jail Thursday. The Iberia Parish Coroner's Office says it's still investigating the cause of death.
