Festivals Acadiens et Creoles 2020 is now underway.
Like most things amid the pandemic, the festival experience is much different this year, but there is still an opportunity to have a good time.
Girard Park in Lafayette quieter than it typically would during festival weekend but organizers and festival goers are making the best of the different experience.
"I didn't think it was going to happen at all."
Musician and Hideaway On Lee co-owner Wilson Savoy is one of many performers having to adjust to a new normal.
"It's kind of hard to get fired up and pumped up with nobody in the audience, but I think if you really love playing music then we can play and have a lot of fun and it's still pretty great,” said Savoy.
"This is the first time I haven't gone," said Rachael Adams.
Adams has been going to Festival Acadiens since she was a child and she misses the real experience.
"I love to dance. I was dancing the whole time. Dancing, eating all the good food from the different restaurants, seeing my friends, and walking around the park,” said Adams.
Given the situation, organizers like Patrick Mould say there is still a festival experience to be had but like most things in 2020, it’s just different.
"We've been working on this for five and a half months filming bands, taping chef demonstrations, looking for archival video, producing workshops, and I think it's going to be a great program in lieu of performing at Girard Park."
The festival will be streaming on Festival Acadiens' website and Facebook page throughout the weekend.
