Archbishop Gregory Aymond, who himself has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, posted a video today offering encouragement to Louisiana.

He asked people to pray for those who are sick, and for healthcare workers who are working so hard. If you know someone like that, call, text them and check on them, he said.

"Just say thank you for giving of yourself in such a special and selfless way," he said. "Pray for them, they deserve our prayers."

He noted that today is the The Feast of the Annunciation, which for Catholics commemorates the visit of the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, during which he informed her that she would be the mother of Jesus Christ. When that happened, Aymond said, Mary was confused and uncertain. But she trusted, he said.

"And Mary has a lot to tell us with that trust, in this coronavirus situation. We must trust. We don't know exactly where this is going, but we know that we have a God who will not abandon us. We know we have a Mother Mary who walks with us and carries us to her Son," the Archbisop said.
