A historic number of people the past two months have applied for food assistance due to the pandemic.
According to our media partners at the Advocate, a large amount of those people are being deemed ineligible for SNAP benefits due to unemployment payments that boost
their income above the threshold to qualify.
Last year, there was an average of 33,000 applications a month.
In April this year alone over 100,000 people have applied.
And of those 100,000 plus, more than 74,000 applicants were rejected.
