Authorities recover body believed to be teen who disappeared in Mississippi River Thursday

UPDATE: First responders have recovered a body believed to be a teen who disappeared in the Mississippi River Thursday afternoon.

Baton Route Police Spokesperson Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. tells The Advocate that BRPD divers and other assisting agencies located a body in the river Thursday evening.

Sgt. Coppola said they believe the body is that of the missing teen, but are holding off on identification pending the coroner's findings.

Rescue operations are underway after a person reportedly fell into the Mississippi River near L'Auberge Casino in East Baton Rouge Parish on Thursday.

Several agencies are responding, including the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, Baton Rouge Police's dive team and helicopter, and the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, according to WAFB. The Coast Guard is also assisting in the search.

Iinvestigators tell WAFB, the incident was called in by an eyewitness, who says a male was fishing and fell into the river just south of the casino shortly before 4:00.

The area is on the river just south of Baton Rouge.

According to The Advocate, the search was ongoing as of 7:30 p.m.
