A petition is taking aim at the day after Halloween for schools in Rapides Parish.

It's not a trick. An online petitionis requesting that classes be canceled for private and public schools in Rapides Parish on Friday November 1, 2019.

The reason for the petitioned closure, the large amount of candy children will be eating. The petition states that the large amount of candy children can ingest will make it, "dangerous to go to school."

"Let's protect our children from going to school this Friday after getting a sugar high from eating all that candy," the petition states. The petition also says that teachers should have a day off too.

So far, that petition has a little over 3,000 signatures as of 3:00 pm Tuesday.

A total of 5,000 signatures are required. It is unclear if Rapides Parish schools will do anything with the petition if it reaches that required amount of signatures.

Many comments on the petition say that they need rest after being out most of the night for Halloween.
