NOPD: Man tries to rob New Orleans streetcar driver at knifepoint on St. Charles Avenue

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police in New Orleans say a man wielding a knife tried to rob a driver operating one of the city's streetcars.

The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate reports the failed robbery attempt happened Sunday night and involved a streetcar on the St. Charles Avenue route.

Police said the streetcar was making a stop when a man outside pulled a knife and demanded the money in the fare box.

The driver closed the door and pulled away as the would-be robber tried to pry the door open.

Police say the driver got away safely and the assailant got nothing.

No arrests were announced.
