NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of one adult female on Monday in the 1500 block of Poydras Street.
According to a release from NOPD, Sixth District officers responded to a traffic accident around 3:51 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim deceased inside of the vehicle.
NOPD say that officers learned that the victim was traveling eastbound on Pontchartrain Expressway, toward the Claiborne exit on I-10 East, when for unknown reasons the victim lost control of the vehicle and struck the right guardrail, which caused the vehicle to be ejected off the interstate into a nearby parking lot, next to the Superdome.
According to NOPD, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the official cause of death and the victim’s name upon completion of an autopsy and notification of family.
