A Morgan City woman was killed Tuesday night after being hit while walking along LA 1247 in Assumption Parish.
State Police say that the crash on LA 1247 in Labadieville happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday October 1, 2019. The crash involved a pedestrian, identified as 30-year-old Krystal Meranta of Morgan City.
An investigation by State Police revealed that a vehicle was traveling east on LA 1247 when it encountered Meranta in the middle of the eastbound lane near Robin Street. The vehicle struck Meranta and she sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was properly restrained and was not injured. State Police say that impairment is suspected on the part of Meranta and a toxicology report is pending. The driver of the vehicle submitted a breath sample and no alcohol was detected, according to Troopers.
This crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
