LWC releases unemployment claims for third week in April

Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending April 25
LWC provides guidance to furloughed federal employees in Louisiana

The Louisiana Workforce Commission has released data for initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending April 25, which have dropped to 66,141 from the week ending April 18, total of 91,923, or a 28% decrease.

For a comparison, during the week ending April 27, 2019, there were 2,030 initial claims filed, according to LWC data.

LWC states the four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 84,972 from the previous week’s average of 92,787.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending April 25, 2020 increased to 300,657 from the week ending April 18, 2020 total of 246,296. The continued claims were above the comparable figure of 13,136 for the week ending April 27, 2019.

The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 221,307 from the previous week’s average of 160,650.
