The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending May 16, 2020 dropped to 28,545 from the week ending May 9, 2020 total of 40,125. For a comparison, during the week ending May 18, 2019, 2,296 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 46,438 from the previous week's average of 62,283. The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending May 16, 2020 increased to 326,504 from the week ending May 9, 2020 total of 325,136. The continued claims were above the comparable figure of 13,389 for the week ending May 18, 2019.
The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 315,578 from the previous week's average of 295,526.
