The Louisiana Workforce Commission says that initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending August 8, 2020 dropped to 11,131 from the week ending August 1, 2020.
That's a decrease of 2,271 initial claims from the previous week's 13,402.
For a comparison, LWC says that during the week ending August 10, 2019, 2,081 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 18,781 from the previous week’s average of 22,586. The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending August 8, 2020 decreased to 299,974 from the week ending August 1, 2020 total of 327,467.
The continued claims were above the comparable figure of 17,513 for the week ending August 10, 2019. The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 316,229 from the previous week’s average of 319,459, according to LWC.
In person and online tools are available through the Louisiana Workforce Commission to help claimants file and process their claims.
In addition, the agency says resources can be found at their 62 local offices statewide. Those resources include job fair opportunities, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other LWC services.
