LSU says that a grad student has been identified as one of the first case of COVID-19 for the university.

According to officials, the student told the university that they have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the first such case at the university.

That person is a graduate student who takes all courses online, who does not live on campus, and who has not been on campus since March 7, according to a release.

The student did have an on-campus job and all those who work in the same office have been alerted to monitor themselves for symptoms. Please know that the CDC does not define simply being in the same office with someone who tests positive as “close contact.”

"All of us offer our thoughts and good wishes to this student. Even though we are social distancing and self-isolating, we are still one compassionate community and we stand together in hope," the university said in a statement.

LSU says they are escalating cleaning procedures and the frequency of cleaning.

"And please be assured that our wonderful staff have thoroughly cleaned the relevant space in accordance with public health guidelines," LSU says.
