Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A, which includes East Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Iberville Parishes, responded to and investigated 15 crashes in a 12-hour shift overnight on Friday.

Of those, seven involved injuries. Two of the seven resulted in fatalities and occurred within a three-hour span.

The first occurred at 11 p.m. on LA 3246 (Siegen Lane) north of I-10. A pedestrian, identified as 22-year-old Aubrey Martin from Denham Springs, was killed in the crash. Troopers say Martin was attempting to cross Siegen Lane when she walked directly in the path of a Dodge Charger and sustained fatal injuries.

The second crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday on LA 1 north of Brusley in West Baton Rouge Praish. That crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Jermaine Bell of Plaquemine. According to LSP, Bell was driving north when his vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned. He was not restrained and sustained severe injuries. He was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a local hospital.

Troopers say nearly all of the 15 crashes were preventable, and add that impairment, distractions, speed, and lack of seatbelt were represented in the majority of the crashes.
