State OMV offices are closed until Monday after a statewide attempted ransomware attack caused systems to go offline.
Progress has been made to restore OMV customer services, but officials opted to keep offices closed to ensure all systems are operational before reopening.
Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency on Friday, allowing several agencies to take actions, including waiving fees and fines, to assist members of the public.
Alongside this announcement, Louisiana State Police Troopers say they will be "exercising discretion" when it comes to recently expired driver's licenses and vehicle registrations. In addition, vehicles impounded by LSP for lack of insurance coverage will be able to show proof of insurance at local LSP Troop locations. Upon insurance verification, impounded vehicles will be issued a release from private storage facilities.
The discretion taken in regards to the above circumstances does not preclude Troopers from taking appropriate enforcement action for other violations of state law.
