Senate President Page Cortez says he's recovered and healthy after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in March.

According to the Advocate, the 58-year-old Lafayette Republican informed senators about his diagnosis and recovery on Thursday, April 23.

Cortez said that his case was mild with fever and body aches and that he was pronounced well before the Legislature met on March 31.

"I was under no obligation to tell anyone," Cortez told The Adovcate. "But today I concluded I had a moral obligation."

Cortez said he began feeling bad around March 19 and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 20.

The senator says he and his wife self-quarantined for 14 days and was told by doctors on March 28 that he could no longer transmit the disease.
