Kids across Louisiana will be participating in the Humane Society of Louisiana's annual LemonAid Day for Animals on Saturday, July 27.

The event encourages children in New Orleans, Houma, Lacombe, Mandeville, and Kinder to man their lemonade stands to help raise funds for homeless and abused animals.

LemonAid Day for Animals began 7 years ago when 7-year-old Jence Simms decided to raise money for neglected horses. She sold lemonade for .50 a cup and she eventually raised $130.00, which she sent to the Humane Society of Louisiana. The event was covered by the media and since then, hundreds of other children have followed Jence's lead.

The Humane Society hopes to one day have children participating from every parish in the state.
