Investigator receives reprimand letter after mistaking homicide as overdose

An investigator with the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office now has a letter of reprimand for mistaking the city's first homicide of the year as an overdose.

Funeral workers later discovered the man died of a gunshot wound.

The investigator, identified as W. Shane Tindall, is an experienced member of the coroner's office staff and has a background in law enforcement, according to a report by The Advocate.

A homicide investigation is underway.
