Early voting ends tomorrow

Tomorrow, October 27, is the last day for early voting for the November 3 election.

Early voting for the election is open in every parish at the parish registrar of voters office, and in other locations as well, in some parishes.

In Lafayette Parish, there are three locations to cast ballots, and we stopped by one this morning to find a long line of voters waiting.

Geraldine Decuir says she had to wait an hour to vote at the Martin Luther King Center on Cora Drive, but she was glad of it.

"It took over an hour, the line was long, but it was great to see that the line was long, because it shows that people are interested. They are casting their votes, and taking charge of the rights that we do have to vote, and what our forefathers fought for," Decuir said.

Decuir said there are so many things Americans are going through this year, but we still need to participate in the change we want by voting.

"We need to take a stand and vote, we need to make the change. That's where the change is going to happen, when we vote," she said.

Decuir said she saw people from all age groups in the center voting today. She has a message for her neighbors:

"If you haven't voted, get out and vote. It is important. Don't talk about it, don't wish upon it, make it happen. Let's make a change. Let's be part of the change. It's time we take charge and make it happen for us, not wait on anybody else. It's our time," she said.

When you go to cast your vote early, you will be asked to identify yourself with either a photo ID or signature on a voter affidavit. You may use a Louisiana driver’s license, a Louisiana special identification card, a United States military identification card that contains the applicant's name and picture or other generally recognized picture identification card that has your name and signature. You may wish to contact your local Registrar of Voters Office for specific locations, dates and times."
