SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - After more than a year without a bishop, the Diocese of Shreveport has a new leader.
News outlets report Monsignor Francis Malone will become the third bishop of the diocese that covers 16 north Louisiana parishes and some Mississippi counties, covering 40,000 Catholics. He has been the chancellor for ecclesial affairs in the Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas, since 2008. He is also pastor of Christ the King Parish in Little Rock.
Malone says he's not looking to make any quick changes. He says he's looking forward to first getting to know everyone and sharing ideas before that happens. He says when the time is right, change will be approached as a team.
Malone succeeds Bishop Michael Ducca. He is scheduled to be consecrated at 2 p.m. Jan. 28.
