A firefighter was arrested in Livingston Parish after he allegedly crashed his car into a ditch while intoxicated early Saturday morning and then trying to use a firetruck to get it out.

An Advocate report citing LPSO stated that Craig Trippi, Jr. then walked to a nearby fire station where he used to work and was able to access equipment.

He found a firetruck there, drove to the scene of the crash, and attempted to dislodge the wreck by attaching a fire hose from the truck to both vehicles.

Trippi was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on one count of Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated and one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, but has bonded out.

Trippi served as a volunteer firefighter in Maurepas and was a firefighter in Baton Rouge.

He was suspended from the Livingston Fire Protection District 9 in Maurepas, where he was a volunteer, pending an outcome of the investigation. Trippi had been on personal leave of absence at the time of the incident.

A spokesman with BRFD said Trippi will receive a five-day suspension without pay from the department and could receive more after the investigation.
