An Ascension Parish man is gaining fame after his animated interpreting during Tropical Storm Barry went viral, according to WBRZ.

Ari Latino, 20, has a unique story. He is deaf himself and signs through his own interpreter in the audience. Being deaf helps him to speak more directly to the deaf audience and means he can sign more conversationally, which makes messages easier to understand.

Latino said that he really wants to help deaf people, and that he doesn't want them to "feel left out. I want the deaf to really understand, clearly, what's happening and not to have any misunderstandings or feel like they're in danger."

Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre named Latino an honorary sheriff for the month of July.
